Meet Laura Kerr from the Experiment Group
07 March 2020
Keep an eye out weekly on Belfast Live as they feature each of our 15 Experiment 26.2 ambassadors as they train for their first ever marathon on Sunday 3rd May in Belfast.
Name: Laura Kerr
Tell us a little about yourself: I am delighted tobe the Deep RiverRock Brand Ambassador running this year’s Belfast City Marathon as part of the 26.2 Experiment group. After graduating from Queen’s University Belfast, I was offered a place on the graduate programme at Coca-Cola HBC in Dublin, where I have worked since September 2018.
What inspired you to take on this challenge? I took up running about a year ago as part of my “New Year’s Resolution”. I always found the gym to be quite an intimidating place – everyone seems to know (or at least pretend to know) what they’re doing in those places – and I can’t even work the leg press! When I run, I don’t feel self-conscious - it’s just running – no equipment involved!
Were you an active person before you signed up? I ran regularly before I signed up for the marathon, but it’s only now I’m training with the 26.2 group, I’m realising I probably wasn’t active enough!
Longest run to date: Half marathon
What has been the biggest struggle so far? The weather! It’s been pretty bad this last wee while with Storm Ciara and Dennis gracing us with their presence. It’s so difficult finding the motivation and energy to run in those kinds of conditions.
What are you enjoying? I’m enjoying all the support from the group and the nutrition plan from Framar Health.
What kind of things do you think about when you’re running? “When is this run over?” No, I’m just kidding. If I’m honest I don’t really think about anything. I think running is a great way to clear the head and think about nothing for a little while.
Do you think you’ll keep up the running after race day? Absolutely! To do this challenge, only to give it all up afterwards, seems like a bit of a waste.
Has your diet changed? There’s definitely less ‘Just Eat’ drivers coming to my door!
What’s the first thing you’re going to do after the marathon? Have a drink and celebrate with my friends and colleagues! But I’ll most likely jump in the shower before that – or else no one will want to celebrate with me!
