stuart-kennedy.jpgDeep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon is delighted to confirm Stuart Kennedy from Beechmount Harriers and West Belfast Coolers will be the Official Marathon Coach for 2020.

Stuart from Belfast is a qualified endurance coach through UK Athletics and has 40 years running experience and 20 years coaching experience.

Furthermore, at the age of 15 years, he ran the 1983 Dublin City Marathon in 2 hours 52 minutes and he is currently in the Top 40 (in the world) for athletes that have the longest length of time between their first sub 3 hour marathon to their most recent sub 3 hour marathon.

Stuart coached the Experiment 26.2 Group in 2019 and saw all 17 cross the finish line for their first ever marathon.

“I have a long relationship with the Belfast City Marathon.  I can remember watching my father stride down Boucher Road during the first Belfast City Marathon in 1982.   I also had the pleasure of pacing sub 3 hour 30 minute runners during the event a few years ago.  I am delighted to be the Official Marathon Coach for the 2020 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon and look forward to coaching individuals and groups of runners to reach their goals for the 2020.”

TRAINING TIPS

Keep any eye on our website and social media when Stuart will share his monthly top training tips.

  1. If it is icy, do not run on the roads and risk an injury.  Go to any of the Better gyms in Belfast and cross train or use a treadmill.
  2. Be seen. Always wear bright reflective running gear or a specialist reflective running top or hat.  Check out Decathlon Belfast for some options.
