Belfast Marathon AND Half Marathon join World Athletics 2024 Calendar
It is with great honour that the Moy Park Belfast City Marathon announce the Marathon AND Half Marathon have received the prestigious Road Race Label from World Athletics. The series gathers the world’s leading road races, whose organisers have met strict criteria for excellence in planning and delivery. 

After securing World Athletics Road Race Label status for the first time in 2023, the Moy Park Belfast City Marathon is once again included in the calendar of fixtures for 2024 and continues to be the only Marathon in Ireland listed. Organisers are delighted to see Belfast amongst major cities like Berlin, Chicago, Toronto, Sydney and Toronto.

Sunday 5th May will see the BIGGEST Marathon the City has hosted in its 42 year history, with 5,500 runners taking on the 26.2 mile challenge. The route is AIMS certified and runs through all 4 areas of Belfast; North, South, East and West, starting at Stormont Estate and finishing in Ormeau Park. 2,500 Relay Teams and 1,200 8 Mile Walkers will join in to soak up the marathon atmosphere, making it Northern Ireland’s biggest mass sport participatory event.

The achievement of a label from World Athletics marks a monumental milestone for the Moy Park Belfast City Half Marathon as it moves into its 11th staging, serving as a tremendous endorsement of the events quality and standing as Northern Ireland’s BIGGEST Half Marathon event. Returning on Sunday 22nd September, the route is an incredible tour of the capital city, soaking in cultural landmarks like the towering Harland and Wolff cranes, the vibrant Custom House Square, and the majestic City Hall. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-timer, the flat, fast and strikingly scenic route is perfect.

The Belfast events are renowned for the incredible support from enthusiastic volunteers and spectators as the courses wind their way through the North, South, East and West of the City. So runners can expect a boost from the quirky motivational signs, words of encouragement and on street entertainment.

Almost one year on from the incident that left him critically injured, Paul is urging the public to support Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, the service that helped save his life.
