Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon is proud to announce Gaitway as its Charity Spotlight for March, shining a well-deserved light on the life-changing work the organisation carries out to support children and young people with cerebral palsy across Northern Ireland.
The timing of this spotlight is particularly significant, with National Cerebral Palsy Day taking place on March 25th, which coincides with the official opening of the new Gaitway premises at Crescent Vitality 27 Clonard Crescent.. The awareness day recognises the strength, resilience and achievements of individuals living with cerebral palsy, while also highlighting the importance of early intervention, specialist support and inclusive communities. Throughout March, Belfast City Marathon is honoured to use its platform to raise awareness of Gaitway’s mission and encourage the running community to get behind this incredible local charity.
Gaitway is a Northern Ireland based charity who provide services for children and young people across the island of Ireland. Gaitway is dedicated to improving mobility, strength and independence for children and young people using tailored therapy programmes such as Neuro Physiotherapy and conductive education. Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood and affects movement, posture and coordination. While there is no cure, specialist therapy and consistent intervention can make a profound difference to a child’s development and quality of life.
Working alongside families and complementing existing NHS services, Gaitway provides tailored physiotherapy programmes designed to meet each child’s individual needs. Through targeted exercise sessions and strength-building programmes, the charity focuses on ability rather than limitation. Their approach empowers children to gain confidence, improve mobility and achieve milestones that might otherwise feel out of reach. For many families across Northern Ireland, Gaitway’s support is truly transformative.
As preparations continue for the Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon and associated events, participants are encouraged to consider supporting Gaitway as part of their race journey. Runners can apply for a charity place directly through the organisation, or, if they already have a public entry, they can choose to dedicate their run to Gaitway and fundraise on the charity’s behalf. Whether taking on the full Marathon or Team Relay every mile completed and every pound raised will contribute directly to therapy sessions, specialist equipment and ongoing support for local children and their families.
Running for a cause often provides powerful motivation on race day, but the impact extends far beyond the finish line. By choosing to support Gaitway, participants will be helping to create meaningful change in the lives of children living with cerebral palsy, ensuring they have access to the specialist care and opportunities they deserve.
Anyone interested in securing a charity marathon place with Gaitway, is encouraged to contact the Charity directly to discuss fundraising opportunities and support packages. Gaitway welcomes runners of all abilities and provides guidance and encouragement throughout the fundraising journey.
