Participants in the 2026 Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon continue to prove that the event is about much more than crossing the finish line, with runners across Northern Ireland raising vital funds and awareness for causes close to their hearts. From supporting loved ones affected by cancer to championing local charities making a difference in communities every day, this year’s event saw inspiring stories of resilience, teamwork and generosity.
McConnell Property Raise Over £6,300 for NIPANC
The team at McConnell Property took on the Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon in support of NIPANC, helping to raise awareness and vital funds for those affected by pancreatic cancer.
For the team, the challenge was deeply personal.
“At McConnell Property, taking part in the Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon was about more than a sporting challenge — it was about coming together to support a cause close to many of our hearts. Inspired by the incredible work of NIPANC, our staff, friends and families united through fundraising events and marathon day itself, raising over £6,300 so far to help support those affected by pancreatic cancer.”
Throughout the months leading up to race day, staff, friends and families came together through coffee mornings, fundraising events and team lunches, all helping the team surpass their fundraising goals.
Team Cadden Support Action Cancer in Honour of Their Mum
Another inspiring story came from Team Cadden, who completed the Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon to support Action Cancer following their mum’s stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis.
A lifelong runner herself, their mum had originally planned to take part in the relay alongside her local club, The Knocks Running Club. What began as a conversation over Christmas quickly turned into a full marathon challenge for the family.
“Our mum was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at Christmas 2025, and as a lifelong runner, we wanted to take on the Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon in support of her and raise vital funds for Action Cancer. What started as a small fundraising goal quickly grew thanks to incredible support from friends, family and the wider community. Crossing the finish line together as Team Cadden was an unforgettable moment.”
The team described the marathon experience as both emotional and motivating, with the support from the local community helping them exceed expectations in both fundraising and spirit.
Running for Charis Cancer Care
Another participant shared how taking part in the Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon became a way of giving back to a charity that had supported their family through an incredibly difficult time.
After cancer affected their family, Charis Cancer Care provided support, compassion and practical help throughout their journey.
“Charis Cancer Care gave our family support, compassion and strength during one of the hardest times in our lives. Taking part was our way of giving back and helping other local families facing the cancer journey. We’re overwhelmed by the incredible support and donations received.”
Their story reflects the impact local charities continue to have on families across Northern Ireland and how marathon fundraising can help ensure those services remain available for others in need.
