This Mental Health Week, we’re celebrating the powerful connection between movement and mental wellbeing through our #MindBodyMiles message.
Whether it’s running, jogging, walking, wheeling or simply getting outside for some fresh air, movement can play an important role in supporting both physical and mental health. At Belfast City Marathon, we see first-hand how exercise brings people together, boosts confidence, reduces stress and creates a sense of achievement and community.
For many participants, taking part in an event is about far more than crossing a finish line. It’s about creating time for yourself, clearing your mind, building healthy habits and connecting with others along the way.
Research consistently shows that regular movement can help to:
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Improve mood and sleep
- Increase energy levels
- Build confidence and resilience
- Support overall mental wellbeing
The best part? You don’t have to run a marathon to feel the benefits.
A short walk after work, a gentle jog with friends, attending a training session or taking part in a local event can all make a positive difference. Every step counts, and every mile matters.
Our events are proud to welcome participants of all abilities and backgrounds, creating an inclusive environment where people can move together, support one another and celebrate personal achievements — big or small.
This Mental Health Week, we encourage everyone to prioritise time for movement in a way that works for them. Lace up your trainers, head outdoors, move your body and take care of your mind.
Let’s continue to support each other, start conversations and remember that movement is not only good for our bodies, it’s good for our minds too.
